Our client ‘S’ is also leading in the Internet of Things space through, among others, our Smart Home and Digital Health initiatives. Since being established in 1969, Our client ‘S’ has grown into one of the world’s leading technology companies, and become recognized as one of the top 10 global brands. Our network now extends across the world, and Our client ‘S’  takes great pride in the creativity and diversity of its talented people, who drive our growth.

 2) Challenge

Our client ‘S’ HQ has been trying to reduce the overseas workforces by 20% from Our client ‘S’ Full time employees and all vendors including BTI Solutions INC. In December 2019, with the effort of all Our client ‘S’ R&D CP, we tried to maintain all 53 BTI employees. However, due to the direct order, BTI Solutions INC was ordered to reduce 10% of the total employees (7 out of BTI’s 53 CP employees) due to the head office’s directive related to the 20% reduction to the entire Our client ‘S’ overseas research institute during the 2020 renewal contract period. After following the directive to reduce 10% of the employees, the 2020 contract was sent to the development management for re-contracting.

 3) Approach

After the final contract renewal contract had already been sent to the Development Management team, I came to the office to visit Junhee Lee, who was head of the Our client ‘S’ R&D department also on a business trip in the San Diego area during the NDA process, I went to Junhee Lee directly and said that in 2020, it will be more difficult for BTI’s manpower to proceed with the task after the reduction. I explained how and why it would be more difficult for BTI CP to cover all the projects planned after the reduction in detail.

 4) Result

Although the contract renewal contract has already been sent to the development management team, due to having a good relationship with Junhee Lee, who was on a business trip in the San Diego area during the NDA process, I went to Junhee Lee directly and said that in 2020, it will be more difficult for BTI to proceed with the task at hand with the reduction of manpower. On that day after finishing our conversation, the Our client ‘S’ Customer Development Management team contacted BTI headquarters to change the number of employees back to the existing 53 employee head count, and I heard that this was the first case in Our client ‘S’ history where Our client ‘S’ had to reduce the number of employees and then restore the workforce again. Through this case, I thought about how important it is to have a consistently good relationship with the customers.
